about

What could be more Paekakariki than a compact surf epic about earthquakes and tsunami?

“This song is about earthquakes. It’s named after a local scientist who studies underwater seismic hazards. It’s about trying to approach earthquakes rationally and scientifically, when you are actually overwhelmed with emotions about them. Mountjoy’s name suits his job, but in an ironic way. Earthquakes don’t exactly spark joy in me.”
– Tina

Mount Joy surfs a lap of the Ring Of Fire, with major hats off to Dick Dale, Bongwater, and Takeshi Terauchi.

lyrics

Trying to understand: seismic waves, surface waves or love waves.
Trying to understand: slow slip interface, velocities on seismogram.
The epicentre.

Trying to understand: tectonic rupture, liquefaction, subduction.
Trying to understand: model probabilities, 15% chance, 48% chance.
The epicentre.
